Dentures
May be recommended if:
Patients have multiple missing teeth, or are planning to have several teeth removed.
Dentures are removable prosthetic appliances designed to replace multiple missing teeth and restore the appearance and function of your smile. Depending on your needs, a denture may replace just a few teeth (a partial denture) or all of the teeth in your upper or lower arch (a complete denture).
At Torresdale Dental Associates, we take the time to carefully design dentures that look natural, fit comfortably, and help you eat, speak, and smile with confidence again.
Benefits of dentures
Every denture is custom-made to fit your mouth and individual needs. Dentures can help restore both the appearance and function of your smile by:
- Replacing multiple missing teeth
- Improving your ability to chew and eat comfortably
- Supporting your lips and cheeks for a fuller facial appearance
- Restoring your smile and confidence
- Providing a reliable solution after multiple extractions
Dentures: What to Expect
Creating a well-fitting denture is a detailed process designed to achieve the best possible results.
Denture treatment
Treatment generally takes five appointments over approximately one and a half to two months and includes:
- Taking detailed impressions of your mouth
- Recording your bite
- Trying in the teeth before the denture is finalized
- Making any necessary adjustments before delivery
We take our time with each step because a carefully made denture leads to a better fit, improved comfort, and a more natural appearance.
Getting used to your denture
Learning to wear a new denture takes a little time. We often tell patients that a new denture is like a new pair of shoes; it may take a couple of weeks to get used to eating and speaking comfortably. With consistent wear and a little patience, most patients adjust very well.
If adjustments are needed along the way, we’re here to help ensure your denture fits as comfortably as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my denture look like real teeth?
Yes! Modern dentures look very natural, and we’ll work with you to create a smile that looks natural for you.
Does it take a long time to get used to dentures?
It can take a couple of weeks to adapt to a new chewing and speaking pattern. With consistency, most patients find they become comfortable after a short adjustment period.
Do I need to be numb for this procedure?
No. Since making a denture involves impressions and measurements rather than dental treatment, numbing is generally not needed. The exception is if teeth are also being removed as part of your treatment.
Are dentures my only option?
Not always. Depending on your individual situation, dental implants may also be an option. Unlike traditional dentures, implants remain securely in your mouth rather than being removable. During your consultation, we’ll discuss all appropriate treatment options so you can make an informed decision.
